Take a short drive to the pretty town of Katikati - often called 'Mural Town'. An array of vibrant murals adorn the buildings all along the main street of Katikati. The murals show the town's history, its people and events.
There are 23 murals to enjoy, plus a growing collection of other outdoor art. You can take a guided tour of the murals.
The Haiku Pathway is a lovely, easy walk which follows a track along the Uretara Stream. Along the way there are 12 large boulders, each inscribed with a haiku that befits its surroundings. The Haiku Pathway is continually being developed, with more stages and more of these small art pieces (haiku) being created.
Katikati is home to many artists, and there are a number of excellent art and craft galleries to browse. After a few hours exploring this picturesque town, relax with a good coffee and some home-baking from one of the many small cafes in Katikati.
There are also an excellent number of bush walks - stop in at the Mural Town Visitor Centre to pick up a brochure.
